How to play it
- After 2. exd5 Qxd5 3. Nc3 Qa5, develop with …Nf6, …c6, …Bf5, …e6 — the same solid house every game.
- Your structure has no weaknesses; aim for the endgame where the early queen sortie cost nothing.
- The 3…Qd6 modern treatment keeps the queen active while dodging book lines.
How opponents will fight back
- Gain time on the queen: Nc3, d4, Bd2, and Nf3–e5 — each developing move hits her majesty.
- Grab the center with d4 and c4 when allowed; the Scandinavian's price is permanent spatial minus.
- Don't chase the queen with pawn moves that weaken squares — develop pieces with the tempo instead.
⚠ Trap to know: After 3…Qa5 4. d4 c6 5. Nf3 Bg4?! 6. Bf4! threatens Nb5 hitting c7 — the queen on a5 suddenly regrets everything.
